Fugitive Lawyer Charles Yeo Yao Hui Arrested in UK

A fugitive lawyer who fled Singapore in July 2022 while facing criminal charges has been apprehended in the United Kingdom. On November 4, authorities in the UK arrested Charles Yeo Yao Hui in connection with his alleged involvement in a cheating case.

Yeo’s arrest comes after Singapore’s request for his extradition in October 2023. The charges against him include abetment of cheating, related to funds that were released to his law firm as part of a client settlement. Authorities in Singapore have been pursuing his return to face trial, following his escape nearly a year ago while he was out on bail.

The case has drawn significant attention due to Yeo’s status as a former lawyer in Singapore and the serious nature of the charges against him.
