Four Nigerian students have been sentenced to prison in connection with a violent altercation in Leicester, during which knives, a baseball bat, and a crutch were used as weapons. The incident occurred on New Park Street in the early hours of November 4, 2021, and left one victim with multiple stab wounds.
Following an extensive investigation by Leicester City Police, the culprits were identified using CCTV footage, phone tracking, and public assistance. The students—Destiny Ojo, Joshua Davies-Ero, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Habib Lawal, all aged 21—were found to have engaged in the violent clash around 3 a.m. on the date of the incident.
The six-week trial concluded in October, and the sentences were delivered on November 14. Destiny Ojo, from Plumstead, London, was sentenced to seven years for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent. Habib Lawal, from Bexley, London, was sentenced to five years for similar charges. Ridwanulahi Raheem, from Lambeth, London, was sentenced to three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article, while Joshua Davies-Ero, from Bexley, was sentenced to two years for violent disorder.
A fifth defendant, Justin Asamoah (22), of Merton, had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and is set to be sentenced on November 22.
Leicester Police commended the public for their valuable assistance during the investigation and emphasized the importance of addressing violent behavior to ensure the safety of the community. Detective Constable Sean Downey commented on the case, stating, “This incident highlights the severe dangers of violent disorder. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were not fatal, but this could have been a very different investigation. We thank the public for their support, and we remain committed to taking firm action against offenders to ensure community safety.”
