EL PASO, Texas — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas announced the charges against four individuals allegedly involved in a human smuggling conspiracy. The suspects have been identified as Yair Alejandro Aguilar-Flores, Angel Eduardo Carrillo-Carrillo, Alfredo Lopez-Acevedo, and Jesus David Reyes-Villagran.
According to court documents, the Ysleta Border Patrol Station’s Disrupt Unit was conducting surveillance at an El Paso motel when agents spotted a vehicle with a temporary license plate. Authorities reported that the driver briefly entered the motel lobby before returning to the vehicle and leaving.
The investigation revealed that three individuals then exited a motel room and entered another vehicle with a similar temporary license plate. Law enforcement officials identified Aguilar-Flores as the driver, and he allegedly admitted to being a Mexican national living in the U.S. illegally.
Agents later found Carrillo-Carrillo and Lopez-Acevedo to be unlawfully present in the U.S. as well. During their investigation, law enforcement discovered seven more undocumented individuals inside the motel room, all of whom were subsequently arrested.
As the investigation was wrapping up, authorities observed the driver of the first vehicle, Reyes-Villagran, returning to the motel and approaching the room where the detained migrants were being held. Reyes-Villagran allegedly told agents that the room was his and that he had just dropped off five other undocumented individuals at another hotel in El Paso.
All four individuals face charges related to bringing in and transporting noncitizens. If convicted, each could face up to 10 years in prison.
This bust highlights the ongoing efforts of U.S. law enforcement to dismantle human smuggling operations and combat the illegal trafficking of migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border.
