The Raidurgam police arrested four individuals on Monday for their involvement in a car rental scam that cheated car owners out of their vehicles, leading to a total loss of Rs2.5 crore. The police also recovered 21 cars of various brands from the suspects, whose collective value was estimated at Rs2.5 crore.
The arrested individuals have been identified as J. Usha, T. Mallesh, Sagar Patil, and J. Anil Kumar, all from Hyderabad.
According to police officials, Usha and Mallesh initially took cars from unsuspecting owners on a rental basis. Instead of returning the vehicles, they further pledged them for rent to Sagar Patil and Anil Kumar. These two individuals, fully aware of the fraudulent intent, accepted the cars and rented them out to various individuals in Bidar and Bhalki districts of Karnataka.
“When the car owners tried to recover their vehicles, the suspects started avoiding them, providing vague excuses and making it difficult for the owners to get their cars back,” said G. Vineeth, DCP Madhapur.
Following a complaint from one of the victims, the police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the four suspects. They also recovered the stolen vehicles from the individuals who had rented them in Karnataka.
The investigation is ongoing, and further inquiries are expected to uncover more details about the extent of the fraud.
