Four individuals, including the acting principal and maulvi of a madrassa in Attarsuiya, were arrested by the Civil Lines police for operating a fake currency racket in Sangam city. The police seized counterfeit currency worth Rs 1.30 lakh, consisting of 1,300 fake Rs 100 notes, along with printing materials like scanners, printers, and sheets on which the notes were being printed.
The accused were identified as Mohd Tafseerul Aafrin (25), the acting principal of Madrassa Jamia Habibia, Zahir Khan alias Abdul Zahir (23), Mohd Shahid (18), and Mohd Afzal (18). According to DCP Deepak Bhuker, Tafseerul Aafrin had rented a room in the madrassa to Zahir Khan, who masterminded the racket and worked on a profit-sharing basis. The gang printed fake currency notes on high-quality equipment and circulated them in local markets.
Zahir Khan and Mohd Afzal were responsible for scanning and printing the notes, which were primarily Rs 100 denominations, as they are less likely to be scrutinized. The gang had plans to circulate fake notes in areas like Attarsuiya, Kydganj, and Khuldbad.
The police operation has led to the arrest of the key members of the gang, and further investigations are ongoing. The accused face multiple charges under sections 178, 179, 180, 181, and 182 of the BNS.
