In a dramatic turn of events, a gang of four men was arrested on Monday for attempting to sell fake gold jewellery at a pawn shop in Red Hills, cheating the shop of Rs11 lakh. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sridhar, Thangadurai, Isakkidurai, and Kumar.
According to police reports, Ramakrishnan, a 48-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Vilangadupakkam, was approached by his friend Thangadurai, a 42-year-old rickshaw driver from Ennore. Thangadurai informed Ramakrishnan that four of his associates were looking to sell gold jewellery and sought his assistance. Trusting his friend, Ramakrishnan agreed to help and took the jewellery to a local pawnbroker for evaluation.
After assessing the gold, the pawnbroker offered Rs11 lakh in exchange. However, upon closer inspection, the broker realized that the jewellery was fake and immediately alerted Ramakrishnan. Upon learning this, Ramakrishnan promptly filed a complaint with Red Hills police.
With Thangadurai’s cooperation, the police set up a trap to apprehend the suspects. The gang was caught when they arrived at a designated location. The accused were charged with cheating and fraud.
Police are continuing to investigate the case, and further details are expected to emerge as the probe unfolds.
