Four Arrested for Robbery of Gold Merchant in Cuttack

In a significant development, the Lalbag police in Cuttack arrested four individuals in connection with a robbery targeting a gold merchant in the Ganesh Ghat area. Among the arrested, two individuals have been identified as the robbers, while the other two are accused of receiving the stolen gold.

The arrested robbers, Uday Samal and Asit Nayak, along with the receivers, Basudev Maharana and Lakhmidhar Maharana, were apprehended following a detailed investigation. Police recovered 60 grams of gold ornaments, Rs9,100 in cash, and an iron rod from the suspects. Additionally, it was revealed that three of the accused had prior criminal records.

The robbery occurred on August 20, when the gold merchant, Dip Narayan Majhi, was returning home after polishing gold ornaments at Balu Bazaar. During the attack, the robbers used an iron rod to injure Majhi’s legs before fleeing with a bag full of gold ornaments.

Additional DCP Anil Mishra shared that Uday Samal was the principal assailant, who struck the merchant’s legs with the iron rod while Asit Nayak assisted in the crime. Lalbag police also seized the bike used in the robbery, along with mobile phones and gold ornaments. The arrested individuals will be presented before the court today.
