Four youths were arrested in connection with a burglary and theft that occurred at a liquor vend in Mamta Enclave, Dhakoli, on the night of November 1. The suspects—Nishant Rana (20), Manveer (22), Vishal Kumar (19), and Pankaj (19)—were apprehended after a daring gunpoint robbery that left the liquor store employee and the owner wounded.
The incident began when three masked individuals entered the liquor shop, while the fourth waited outside on a motorcycle. One of the robbers held the employee, Manoj Kumar, at gunpoint, demanding money from the cash drawer. They made off with Rs10,000 in cash. During the robbery, one of the suspects fired a shot that hit the basement wall, prompting the shop’s owner, Deepak Sandhu, to intervene. He was shot in the chest and later admitted to PGI hospital.
After the crime, police recovered crucial evidence, including two pistols, cartridges, knives, and the motorcycle used during the robbery. The suspects, all residents of Panchkula, confessed during questioning that they had procured the illegal firearms from Uttar Pradesh. The police have confirmed that the group is involved in similar crimes, and efforts are underway to uncover the full extent of their operations.
Nishant Rana was involved in a fraud case, Manveer in an Excise Act case, and Vishal Kumar in a brawl case. Pankaj, although having no prior criminal record, was involved in the burglary and theft.
The four suspects have been remanded to police custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
