Corey Harris, 34, a former officer with the Visalia Police Department and currently employed by the California Department of Cannabis Control, has been indicted on federal charges related to firearms trafficking and illegal manufacturing. The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of California, accuses Harris of conspiring to transfer firearms to a known felon between 2021 and 2023.
Harris is accused of illegally obtaining and trafficking firearms, including a stolen AK-style rifle, a Glock handgun, and a “ghost gun,” a privately manufactured machine gun without a serial number. Court documents indicate Harris exploited his position as a police officer to acquire firearms and firearm accessories that were unavailable to the general public.
The charges against Harris include conspiracy to traffic firearms, illegal manufacturing, and selling firearms without a license. If convicted, Harris faces significant penalties, including up to 15 years in prison for conspiracy and up to 5 years for firearms violations.
Harris has yet to be tried, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
