A former Mississippi law enforcement officer was arrested on Monday in Lafayette, Louisiana, for impersonating an officer. Edwinn Silence, 52, faces two counts of fraudulent portrayal of a law enforcement officer.
According to reports, Silence presented himself as an out-of-state law enforcement officer to at least one victim, showing a badge and wearing a uniform. Lafayette Parish deputies discovered that Silence had previously served with law enforcement agencies in Mississippi.
Further investigation revealed that Silence had not returned several pieces of department-owned property, prompting a search warrant to be executed at his residence. Authorities recovered multiple law enforcement-related items from Mississippi agencies, including a department-owned pistol and two AR-15 style firearms.
Silence is currently being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to probe into his actions.
