MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. – A former Miami Springs little league coach has been arrested on nearly two dozen child pornography-related charges after a cyber tip led authorities to his online activity, police confirmed Friday.
Adrian Cotera, 37, who previously coached tee-ball for children under five, was taken into custody after detectives traced child exploitation material to his cellphone and home IP address.
The investigation began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children flagged suspicious activity, leading police to execute a search. Officers discovered 20 videos containing child sexual abuse material, some involving victims as young as 10 years old, according to an arrest report from the Miami Springs Police Department.
Police placed Cotera under surveillance before stopping his vehicle, where they discovered a firearm and 21.5 grams of suspected cocaine. The narcotics were seized and sent to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office crime lab for testing.
Miami Springs Police Chief Matthew Castillo emphasized that Cotera had no prior criminal history, urging the public to report any concerning behavior.
“If you see something concerning or something that doesn’t seem right, give us a call, tell your league president, tell another coach, and we’ll investigate it,” Castillo said.
Cotera faces 20 counts of promoting sexual performance by a child and possession of an armed controlled substance. Authorities said he confessed to both charges, and the investigation remains ongoing.
As of Friday, Cotera was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $40,000 bond.
