Former Hillsborough County GOP Treasurer Arrested for Stealing $14,000

A former treasurer of the Hillsborough County Republican Party, Patrick Bailey, was arrested after allegedly stealing over $14,000 from the party’s funds. The 50-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday, facing charges of false entry in the books of a business entity and third-degree grand theft.

Investigators reported that Bailey wrote personal checks from the party’s business account and transferred funds to his personal bank account. In total, Bailey stole $14,400 from the organization.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commented on the arrest, saying, “When someone exploits their position to take what doesn’t belong to them, it hurts the organization and the people who trusted them. Our detectives worked diligently to uncover the truth and hold this individual accountable.”

The Hillsborough County Republican Party expressed disappointment over Bailey’s actions, stressing that it would not overshadow the party’s efforts and goals for the future. They issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to their work ahead of the midterm elections.
