Former Farmington City Clerk Pleads Guilty to Fraudulent Statements to Government

FARMINGTON, Miss. — Debora Jackson, the former Farmington City Clerk, has pleaded guilty to one count of fraudulent statements to the government. The charges, according to Mississippi State Auditor Shad White, stemmed from Jackson’s submission of fraudulent time cards, unauthorized use of sick and vacation leave, and improper calculations of overtime.

This misconduct violated the Federal Labor Standards Act, prompting Jackson’s prosecution in Alcorn County Circuit Court. As a result, Jackson was sentenced to five years of supervised probation, along with a financial penalty that includes $36,183.30 in restitution and $1,200 in fines.

State Auditor Shad White stressed the zero-tolerance stance on fraud, vowing to continue efforts to uphold accountability in public office. The Mississippi State Auditor’s Office urges citizens to report any suspicions of fraud through their website or helpline.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and integrity within public service.
