FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — Levi White, a former Crawford County sheriff’s deputy, has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to violating the civil rights of a man during a violent arrest in 2022. The arrest, which was caught on video, showed White repeatedly punching Randal Worcester during a confrontation outside a convenience store.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Susan O. Hickey sentenced White to serve his time at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri, a facility for inmates requiring medical care. In addition to the prison sentence, White will be placed on two years of supervised release after completing his time in custody.
The case stemmed from White’s actions on August 21, 2022, when he was recorded attacking Worcester during an arrest, leading to charges of deprivation of rights under the color of law. White pled guilty to these charges in April. Judge Hickey also recommended that White receive medical treatment and counseling while incarcerated.
