Former Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant, Keith Cantrell, 42, from Ringgold, Georgia, was arrested and charged by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) with theft by deception, criminal attempt to commit theft by deception, and violation of oath by a public officer.
The GBI launched the investigation at the request of the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, February 6, 2025, following allegations that Cantrell stole funds while working an off-duty security job. Cantrell had been hired by a local church to provide security services, but he submitted invoices for payment for work that he never actually performed.
During the investigation, GBI agents determined that Cantrell failed to show up for work yet received payment for the services. Additionally, he attempted to collect further payment for services that were never rendered. Cantrell was terminated from the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office on February 13, 2024, following the discovery of his actions.
Cantrell has been booked into the Catoosa County Jail. The investigation remains active, and anyone with further information is urged to contact the GBI’s regional office in Calhoun at (706) 624-1424. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at GBI Tips, or via the See Something, Send Something app.
Once the investigation concludes, the case file will be handed over to the Catoosa County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
