Memory Smith, a former bookkeeper at Quitman High School, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to embezzling funds from the school’s activity fund. The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor reported that Smith took cash from the fund and used it for personal expenses.

Smith was prosecuted in the 10th District Circuit Court. She was sentenced to seven years in prison, which was suspended, and placed on five years of probation. In addition to probation, Smith was fined $2,000 for her actions.

Mississippi State Auditor Shad White expressed appreciation for the efforts of the investigators and prosecutors who collaborated to bring the case to a close. “I’m thankful to the tireless efforts from the investigators and prosecutors for the joint work required to bring this case to a close,” White said in a press release.
