Former Bank Jago Employee IA Arrested for Rp 1.4 Billion Theft

A former employee of Bank Jago has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rp 1.4 billion from accounts that had been frozen by the bank under the directive of law enforcement authorities. The Jakarta Police announced the arrest on Wednesday.

The suspect, identified by the initials IA, aged 33, worked as a contact center specialist at the bank. Police officials stated that between March 18 and October 31, 2023, IA managed to breach Bank Jago’s security system.

IA gained unauthorized access to 112 accounts that were frozen due to suspected criminal activities, based on guidance from authorities. Once he had access, IA transferred funds totaling Rp 1.4 billion to an external account.

IA now faces charges under the Electronic Information and Transaction Law, as well as the Anti-Money Laundering Law. The case highlights vulnerabilities in financial institutions’ security systems and the growing issue of internal fraud.
