Former Bank Employee Arrested in ATM Theft Scheme

Police have arrested two individuals, including a former bank employee, for allegedly tampering with an ATM in Ramganj and stealing over Rs15 lakh. DCP (North) Rashi Dudi Dogra announced the arrests of Rohitash Kumhar (25) from Malakheda, Alwar, and Rohitash Singh (25) from Alwar, currently residing in Rewari, Haryana.

Kumhar, the alleged mastermind behind the operation, used his insider knowledge gained from his previous job at the bank to orchestrate the theft, just days after resigning. Police apprehended the suspects using CCTV footage and successfully recovered the entire stolen amount. They are currently interrogating the arrested individuals.

DCP Dogra noted, “We suspected a former employee because there was no physical damage to the ATM; it was accessed using a technical password.”

Before executing the theft, Kumhar quit his job and enlisted Singh from Haryana to assist him. Both wore helmets to conceal their identities during the operation. On Wednesday night, they targeted the ATM located at Hida Ki Mori in Ramganj market. Kumhar managed to tamper with the machine inside the booth, using a pre-known password to open the cash box and steal Rs15 lakh before fleeing.

Upon discovering the theft, Ramganj police reviewed approximately 200 CCTV recordings and identified Kumhar’s involvement based on his appearance.
