In a well-orchestrated heist, city police have arrested three individuals, including a current and a former employee of a well-known e-commerce company, for robbing a cash collection agent in Jhotwara area on February 14, 2024.
According to DCP West Amit Budania, the robbery was masterminded by Rajendra, alias Rajveer Singh, who had previously worked at Flipkart. The investigation revealed that Singh, together with his associate Rajendra, alias Raj, who was still employed at Flipkart, used insider knowledge to plan the crime. The duo knew that cash collection agents frequently carried large sums of money after visiting the e-commerce facility.
Faced with financial hardships, Singh and Raj plotted the robbery over the course of a month, closely tracking the collection agent’s routine. On the morning of February 14, around 10:45 AM, Piyush Agarwal, a 45-year-old agent for Kavya Enterprises, was transporting Rs 4.8 lakh in cash after collecting it from the Flipkart office when he was ambushed by a group of five to six masked men. The attackers threatened him with pistols, assaulted him with sticks, and made off with his bag containing the money.
Using CCTV footage from nearby cameras, the police identified Singh as the prime suspect. Further investigation revealed that Raj, still working at Flipkart, had leaked confidential details about the company’s cash collection process, allowing the robbers to plan the attack. The suspects used a rented Swift car to intercept Agarwal as he left the collection point.
After tracking the rental vehicle to an agency in Vaishali Nagar, the police located Singh’s residence. He was arrested on Sunday night, returning from a family trip, but not before falling into a ditch and fracturing his leg while trying to evade capture.
Along with Singh, police have also arrested Raj and Vijay Sain, an accomplice. The investigation continues, with authorities working to uncover more details about the operation.
