Five women have been arrested and charged following a riot at Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto. The women were booked into the Habersham County Detention Center on Friday and face charges of riot in a penal institution and violation of the Georgia Street Gang and Terrorism Prevention Act.
Although no details have been disclosed about the incident, four of the women are confirmed to be inmates at Lee Arrendale State Prison, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. The fifth individual, Kareasha Tynekia Washington, does not have any listed information on the department’s website.
As of early Saturday afternoon, the Georgia Department of Corrections has not responded to media inquiries regarding the event.
