In a major crackdown under Operation Dawn, the Naharlagun police have arrested five interstate drug peddlers in the last three days, registering three cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The successful operation has yielded significant drug seizures and led to multiple arrests across the region.
On June 5, 2024, the police arrested Nabam Tagio, 46, from Kangra Puttu, Naharlagun. He was found in possession of two vials containing 2.4 grams of suspected heroin and four empty plastic vials. Later that day, a separate arrest was made by the Papu Hills PS team, led by Inspector Torun Mai. The second suspect, Om Bahadur Pradhan, 25, from Gohpur in Assam, was apprehended with 1.94 grams of heroin and seven empty vials.
The following day, June 6, 2024, the Naharlagun police team, led by Inspector K. Dev, arrested two more individuals at Lagun Bridge. Techi Haniya, 27, from Sagalee, Papumpare, and Wapang Chingmak, 27, from Dimapur, Nagaland, were found with 26.3 grams of suspected heroin.
Additionally, the Naharlagun police arrested Emmanuel Khujur, 27, from Lakhimpur, Assam, on June 3, 2024. Khujur, identified as the primary drug supplier to Itanagar and Ziro, was linked to another case under the NDPS Act.
The arrested individuals and the seized drugs have been placed under investigation. Authorities are continuing their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in combating narcotics.
The successful operations were praised by Mihin Gambo, Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, for the police team’s prompt actions and the continued commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the area.
The Naharlagun police have urged the public to report any information related to drug trafficking or suspicious activities in their communities to assist in further investigations.
