On Thursday, police in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, arrested five individuals in connection with an alleged recruitment scam. The arrests followed a complaint from the District School Inspector of Kanpur.
The accused have been identified as Shivam Vishwakarma, Lalji Singh, Dinesh Kumar Pandey, Abhinav Tripathi, and Vivek Dwivedi. Authorities recovered five mobile phones and Rs 11,500 in cash from the suspects. According to police, the group managed to get nine individuals recruited in government inter colleges using forged appointment letters.
DCP Central RS Gautam revealed that the fraudsters created a fake email ID that closely resembled the authorized email of the Directorate of Education Selection Board. Through this fraudulent account, they sent appointment letters for the nine recruits to the District School Inspector of Kanpur Nagar, as well as the teacher recruitment selection panel. These individuals were even deployed in various inter colleges based on these forged documents.
Police indicated that an interstate gang is involved in this scam, charging significant amounts of money from job seekers in exchange for false promises of employment in various departments.
The District School Inspector reported the fraud to the police, prompting a collaborative investigation by the police, a surveillance team, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The Colonelganj police successfully exposed the scheme with the arrests on Thursday.
DCP Central confirmed that a preliminary investigation by the Board of Secondary Education raised suspicions, leading to the involvement of law enforcement. Ongoing investigations are expected to uncover more details about the operation.
