A volunteer firefighter has been arrested for allegedly leaking graphic photos related to the death of twin brothers Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, whose case has drawn widespread controversy.
Scott Kerlin, 42, was charged with misdemeanor obstruction after authorities determined he took and publicly shared images from the teens’ death scene, according to a March 18 press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Suspicious Circumstances Surrounding the Twins’ Deaths
Qaadir and Naazir, both 19, were found dead on top of Bell Mountain in Georgia on March 8—one day after they were supposed to fly to Boston. Their plane tickets were still in their wallets when their bodies were discovered by hikers.
Authorities ruled the case a murder-suicide, alleging that one twin fatally shot the other before turning the gun on himself. However, their family has strongly rejected this conclusion.
“How did they end up out in the mountains?” their uncle, Rahim Brawner, told NBC affiliate WXIA-TV. “They don’t hike out there, they’ve never been out there. They don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia.”
Their aunt, Yasmine Brawner, also dismissed the official ruling, stating, “They wouldn’t do anything like this. To say they did this to each other? No. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers.”
Ongoing Investigation and Family’s Plea for Justice
The GBI confirmed that autopsies for the twins have been completed, but an official ruling is still pending additional forensic tests. Meanwhile, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and seek justice.
“My nephews wouldn’t do this,” Yasmine wrote on the fundraising page. “They came from a family of love. These twins had dreams of starting their own clothing line.”
As investigations continue, Kerlin remains under scrutiny for his alleged misconduct, further fueling speculation and concerns surrounding the case.
