Favour Ekoh Arrested by EFCC Over N700 Million Scam

By Ayorinde Oluokun/Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has provided details regarding the arrest of Favour Ekoh, a host at Urban Radio Station in Enugu, alongside a colleague and two security guards, in connection with an alleged N700 million Ponzi scheme.

Contrary to claims that Ekoh was apprehended while on air, the EFCC clarified that operatives faced obstruction when they arrived at the station. Upon informing the station’s owner of their mission, the staff locked the gates, preventing the EFCC from carrying out their duties.

After calling for reinforcements, the EFCC was able to arrest Ekoh, who is under investigation for allegedly luring around 50 victims into investing in a scheme named “Life Trading” through Leverage Index Limited, promising unrealistic returns. Victims reported that after their investments, the company’s office was suddenly closed, and they received no returns.

The EFCC emphasized that the operation was necessary given the serious allegations and confirmed that Ekoh was released after giving her statement. The Managing Director of the station, Bamikole Owoyomi, and the security guards were also arrested for obstructing the EFCC’s efforts.

The commission has called on the International Press Institute and the Nigerian Union of Journalists to investigate the station’s conduct, raising concerns about the professional integrity of its staff amid the serious allegations against Ekoh.
