A man accused of impersonating a British doctor and performing surgeries that allegedly led to the deaths of seven patients has been arrested by police in India. Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, also known by the alias Dr. N John Camm, worked as a cardiologist at a missionary hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.
Yadav, aged 53, is facing charges of fraud, cheating, and forgery after being accused of faking his medical degrees. Police also claim that Yadav added the name of Prof. John Camm, a prominent cardiologist from the UK’s St. George Hospital, to his own name to gain credibility in the medical field.
The case came to light after a series of patient deaths in February, which led a child welfare committee in Damoh to flag Yadav’s credentials. An investigation revealed that Yadav had worked on 64 cases, including 45 angioplasty procedures, which resulted in the death of seven patients. The investigation is still ongoing, with the police expressing doubts that his medical degrees were forged due to missing key details.
Yadav, who had worked in India for almost two decades, was arrested in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday evening. The Mission Hospital in Damoh, where he worked briefly, denied knowing about his allegedly fake credentials, stating that he appeared to be an experienced and skilled doctor.
Yadav had previously made unverified claims about his medical background, stating that he trained in the UK under Prof. A John Camm and had worked at St. George’s Hospital since 2002. He also mentioned developing the John Camm Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Rajasthan, although no public evidence supports these claims.
Yadav’s medical career has been riddled with controversy. He was arrested in 2019 for allegedly abducting a British doctor, and in 2014, he was banned for professional misconduct. Furthermore, he faced fraud charges in 2013, though a court stayed the complaint.
This arrest follows growing concerns about Yadav’s actions and his unverified professional history, leading to questions about the safety of patients treated by him. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of his fraudulent activities.
