Ex-Minister Mervyn de Silva Arrested in Rs. 75M Land Fraud Case

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sri Lanka has arrested six individuals, including former Minister and Member of Parliament Mervyn de Silva, in connection with a Rs. 75 million land fraud involving forged documents.

The scam involved the illegal preparation of fake ownership documents for a 0.2137-hectare land belonging to the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha.

Mervyn de Silva was taken into custody in the Pelawatta area of Battaramulla last night. The Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the CID is leading the probe into the fraudulent transaction.

Authorities are expected to uncover further details as the investigation continues.
