Ex-Employee Jay Patel Arrested for Stealing Rs5.80 Lakh from ICICI ATM

In a major ATM fraud case, Jay Ramesh Patel, a former employee of CMS Info Company, was arrested for stealing Rs5.80 lakh from ICICI Bank ATMs. The 22-year-old was caught after an investigation revealed that he had been using a clever trick to divert cash during ATM withdrawals.

The incident came to light when Rahul Mehta, a manager at CMS Info Company, received a complaint from a customer who had tried to withdraw ₹50,000 from an ICICI ATM but did not receive the money. The ATM transaction record showed that the money was withdrawn, but the customer insisted that no cash had been dispensed.

Upon reviewing the ATM CCTV footage, it was revealed that Jay Patel, who had been terminated from his position at the company last September, was seen in the footage near the ATM machine. Patel was observed opening the hood of the ATM using a key he had in his possession, and inserting a rubber band into the cash dispenser.

This trick caused the machine to jam the money, leading the customer to leave the machine without the cash. After the customer departed, Patel was seen removing the rubber band and pocketing the money.

Further investigation uncovered that Patel had used the same trick to steal a total of Rs5.80 lakh over a span of one month. He had targeted several ATM machines during this period. The Mahidharpura police were alerted, and after confirming the theft through multiple complaints, Patel was arrested.

Patel’s clever scheme had gone undetected until the CCTV footage and customer complaints helped uncover his fraudulent activities. He is now facing charges for theft and fraud related to his actions.
