Erik Jeovany Garcia Brizuela Sentenced to 30+ Years in Drug Case

Erik Jeovany Garcia Brizuela, 35, a Mexican national, was sentenced to over 30 years in federal prison for his role in a large drug trafficking conspiracy. The conspiracy involved the distribution of more than 90 pounds of methamphetamine. This sentence, announced Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, comes after Garcia Brizuela admitted to conspiracy charges related to the possession and distribution of methamphetamine in 2021.

Court documents reveal that Garcia Brizuela, in collaboration with his co-conspirator Melissa Enit Alvarado, distributed methamphetamine through a series of transactions. Garcia Brizuela was directly involved in selling the drug to a confidential source and using Alvarado to negotiate prices and facilitate the exchanges.

During his sentencing, an FBI special agent testified that Garcia Brizuela was responsible for converting liquid methamphetamine into its crystal form, which was then supplied to buyers in both Mexico and the United States. Despite stopping the production of methamphetamine, Garcia Brizuela continued to sell the drug at a price ranging from $3,200 to $7,000 per kilogram. Records showed that he had received a shipment of 40 kilograms of methamphetamine.

The total amount of methamphetamine attributed to Garcia Brizuela has an estimated wholesale market value between $134,000 and $296,100. Additionally, Garcia Brizuela was also involved in the sale of black tar heroin, which he and Alvarado sold for up to $14,000 per kilogram. Alvarado helped with translations during these drug transactions.

Alvarado, who was also involved in the conspiracy, pleaded guilty in September 2022 to charges related to methamphetamine trafficking. She was sentenced to four years in federal prison on June 23, 2023.

Garcia Brizuela’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of involvement in large-scale drug trafficking operations. The efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, played a crucial role in dismantling the network responsible for the illegal drug distribution.
