Clarkston, WA – A Clarkston man, Eric Michael Burnet, 42, was arrested on March 3rd in connection with an identity theft case that began in February.
According to an affidavit from the Clarkston Police Department, the case started when a victim reported that their wallet had been lost and their bank cards were being used without authorization.
On February 22, Walmart employees alerted police to a fraudulent transaction attempt at a self-checkout register, totaling $338.99. Surveillance footage captured a white male wearing a tan hat, black “CAT” hoodie, jeans, and work boots attempting to use multiple stolen cards, all of which were declined.
On March 3rd, Clarkston police shared an image of the suspect on social media, leading to multiple tips identifying him as Eric Michael Burnet. When contacted by police, Burnet initially denied being at Walmart but later refused further questioning after being told about the surveillance footage.
Officers located Burnet at his Sycamore Street residence and arrested him without incident. However, the stolen wallet and bank cards were not recovered.
Burnet has been charged with second-degree identity theft, and the case remains under active investigation.
