Elmore County Guard Alesia Jarrett Arrested for Drug Trafficking

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A security guard employed at an Alabama state prison facility is now behind bars herself, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC). Alesia Jarrett, a 22-year-old security guard at the Elmore Correctional Facility, was arrested on Tuesday after an investigation into drug trafficking.

Agents from the ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD), supported by K9 and Security Threat Group personnel, took Jarrett into custody. She is accused of attempting to smuggle narcotics into the correctional facility. The arrest followed an investigation that found Jarrett in possession of approximately 250 grams of methamphetamine.

Jarrett had been employed with the ADOC since October 2021, but following her arrest, she resigned from her position. She is facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, using her position for personal gain, and promoting prison contraband. Following her arrest, Jarrett was taken to the Elmore County Detention Facility for processing and is being held on a $1.5 million bond.

“LESD agents were able to gather critical intelligence that led to her arrest,” the ADOC said in a statement. “We are committed to maintaining security within our facilities and holding our employees to the highest standards.”

The ADOC investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be forthcoming as more details emerge.

Jarrett’s arrest highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement to target drug trafficking operations within the state’s correctional facilities and to ensure that personnel involved in illicit activities are held accountable for their actions.
