El-Rufai Sues Kaduna Assembly Over Fraud Indictment

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has adopted a report from an ad-hoc committee that indicted former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for fraud, calling for his prosecution. In response, El-Rufai has filed a lawsuit against the state government and the Assembly, claiming his rights were violated during the investigation of his administration’s financial management from 2015 to 2023.

El-Rufai is seeking a declaration from the Federal High Court that the report, which accuses him of mismanaging approximately N423 billion in loans, is unconstitutional. The Assembly’s report alleged that these loans were not used for their intended purposes and that due process was sometimes ignored in securing them.

On Wednesday, El-Rufai, who served two terms as governor, officially filed a fundamental rights enforcement case at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. His spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, noted that El-Rufai was present to sign the affidavit supporting his legal challenge.
