El Paso Officer Ruben Morales Arrested for Theft on Duty

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Ruben Morales, a 25-year-old officer with the El Paso Police Department, was arrested and charged with theft following an internal investigation into an incident on December 13.

Morales, a two-year veteran of the department, responded to a hit-and-run call on the 6600 block of Westfield. However, an internal review revealed that U.S. currency was missing from a locked glove box and a small bag inside the vehicle he was investigating. The vehicle owner reported the missing funds, prompting further investigation.

The El Paso Police Department has initiated the termination process for Morales, who is facing charges of theft over $2,500 but less than $30,000. Morales was released on a $5,000 bond following his arrest.
