BLOOMINGDALE, NJ – Edwin Baez, a Bronx resident, was arrested in connection with a significant identity theft and financial fraud case that involved unauthorized purchases totaling $64,000.
The investigation began when the victim noticed unusual activity in their personal bank accounts. After further analysis, it was determined that Baez had gained unauthorized access to the victim’s personal information. This allowed him to compromise multiple accounts, leading to significant withdrawals. Additionally, Baez made fraudulent purchases worth over $2,600 at a Best Buy in Paramus, NJ.
The Bloomingdale Police Department, in coordination with the Paramus Police Department, tracked the unauthorized transactions. As the suspect arrived to pick up items purchased fraudulently, law enforcement was able to make the arrest without incident.
Chief Daniel Greenwood praised the collaboration between the two police departments: “I would like to thank the Paramus Police Department for their swift actions alongside my officers, which led to the apprehension of a suspect in less than 24 hours of it being reported to authorities. This kind of collaboration brings back justice.”
Baez was taken into custody, and the investigation into his fraudulent activities is ongoing.
