SARATOGA COUNTY, NY — Edward Tomchek, 46, of Schenectady, was arrested after a warrant was issued by the Malta Town Court for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars through fraudulent checks. Tomchek now faces multiple charges, including grand larceny in the third degree (a class D felony), identity theft in the third degree, and forgery in the third degree (both class A misdemeanors).
The charges stem from a lengthy investigation that began in August 2021, when the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about fraudulent check activity. According to authorities, Tomchek is accused of cashing fake checks against a business account, stealing more than $3,000.
Following his arrest, Tomchek was arraigned in Malta Town Court and returned to the Schenectady County Jail on separate charges. Further court proceedings are still pending as the investigation continues.
