Two men sentenced after threatening car owner at knifepoint and stealing a vehicle in Meir

by Amelia Crawford

On June 22, 2022, Caddick and Leadbeater stole a red Toyota after threatening the owner at knifepoint on Broadway, Meir. A friend of the victim spotted the car shortly after and followed it, prompting a police operation.

When the stolen vehicle was abandoned on Harrowby Road, one of the thieves threatened the friend with a large knife, forcing him to flee. Caddick took off in the victim’s Toyota Yaris, while Leadbeater continued driving the stolen Toyota.

Leadbeater was arrested after a stinger device disabled the car on the railway lines at Blythe Bridge. Caddick was later stopped and arrested on Green Lane.

Both men pleaded guilty to two counts each of aggravated vehicle taking. Caddick was sentenced to 17 months in prison, while Leadbeater received a 16-month sentence.

Staffordshire Police continue to use specialized technology and resources in their ongoing efforts to combat vehicle theft and protect local residents’ property.
