Duo Arrested for Stealing Bikes from OLX Sellers in Hyberabad

In a successful operation, Cyberabad police arrested two members of a gang that had been duping bike sellers on OLX by posing as interested buyers. The suspects, O Ramesh Babu and C Gundappa, both delivery workers, were caught on Monday in Bachupally. They would contact bike sellers who had posted ads on OLX and, under the pretext of taking a test ride, steal the vehicles.

Police were able to recover six stolen bikes, valued at approximately Rs4 lakh, after arresting the duo. The breakthrough came through the use of CCTV footage and technical evidence, which helped the police track down the criminals.

According to K. Suresh Kumar, DCP of the Balanagar Zone, the duo had been linked to several bike theft cases across multiple locations including Bachupally, Miyapur, Jagadgirigutta, and KPHB. Their modus operandi involved meeting sellers, tricking them into handing over the bikes, and fleeing without a trace.

The two criminals had been working together along with an accomplice, P Narsimha, who is still at large. It was revealed that they had initially met while drinking in Suraram. Facing financial problems, they devised the bike theft plan as a way to earn money quickly.

In one of their thefts, they managed to steal a bike from an MNC employee in Bachupally on January 23, 2025. The investigation continues, and police are on the lookout for their absconding partner.
