A drug peddler was arrested by the Jalandhar Rural Police during a special operation, with 350 grams of heroin seized from his possession. The operation took place in Maqsudan, Jalandhar, based on intelligence gathered by the CIA staff.
According to Gurmeet Singh, SSP of Jalandhar Rural, the operation was initiated following information that a significant drug deal was about to take place in Maqsudan. A special team, led by SI Nirmal Singh, was deployed to monitor the area. The team spotted a suspicious individual standing at the bus stop near Biddhipur railway gate. Upon searching the suspect’s side bag, they found 350 grams of heroin hidden inside.
The arrested individual was identified as Savinder Singh, a resident of village Varian, police station Bhindian Maida, in Amritsar district. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was filed against him on March 7 at Maqsudan.
During questioning, Singh admitted to his involvement in drug smuggling. He stated that he had previously worked as a manual laborer but turned to drug trafficking after being enticed by the prospect of quick wealth. Singh explained that he would bring heroin from the border region at low prices and distribute it in Jalandhar and the surrounding areas.
Singh was produced in court and was granted police remand for further investigation.
