In a significant bust, Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a drug peddler at Agartala Railway Station on Wednesday and seized 25 kilograms of dry cannabis (Ganja). The drugs were found hidden in his bags as he was preparing to board a Delhi-bound express train, en route to his hometown in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The suspect, identified as Subash Jatt, a 25-year-old resident of Chamu village, Jaipur, was detained by the police during a routine check of passenger and express trains leaving Agartala Station. The GRP noticed his suspicious movements near the station’s parcel office and decided to search his belongings.
During the search, the police recovered the 25 kg of Ganja from his bags. Upon questioning, Subash Jatt revealed that he had procured the narcotic substance from Tripura and was transporting it to Jaipur to sell in local markets at a high price.
The GRP arrested Subash Jatt under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he was produced in a local court with a request for three days of police remand. This operation is part of the GRP’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of passengers traveling through the railway network.
The GRP is continuing its investigation to determine whether Subash Jatt is part of a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region. Authorities have vowed to increase surveillance on trains and at railway stations to curb the illegal transportation of narcotics.
