Driver Arrested for Stealing Rs 25 Lakh in Cash from Employer

The Kherwadi police in Bandra have arrested Gurudev Subhash Patil (42), a car driver, for stealing Rs 25 lakh in cash from his employer. The police were able to recover Rs 23.72 lakh from the accused.

The arrest took place at Thane railway station, following a complaint filed by Naved Mohammad Siddiqui (46), a developer from Bandra. Patil had been working as Siddiqui’s driver for the past 10 months.

The incident came to light on February 20, when Siddiqui, accompanied by his friend Gaurav Arora, had gone to the MHADA office in Bandra, leaving Patil in charge of the vehicle, which contained cash. However, when Siddiqui returned, both Patil and the car were missing.

Siddiqui tried calling Patil, but his phone was switched off. Later, Siddiqui’s office staff informed him that the car was parked near Adani Electricity in Kherwadi, but the bag containing the cash was missing. Suspecting theft, Siddiqui filed a complaint with the Kherwadi police.

An investigation led by ACP Prakash Chougule revealed that Patil had a criminal background with multiple cases registered against him. Using technical analysis of Patil’s mobile and IMEI number, police tracked his movements and found he was heading towards Thane.

Acting quickly, a police team intercepted Patil at the Thane railway station and arrested him. Police recovered Rs 23.72 lakh from him, and he was later presented before the local court in Bandra, which remanded him to police custody for further investigation.
