Dairon Manuel Garcia, a 44-year-old South Florida doctor, was arrested on serious charges of drug trafficking after authorities uncovered his involvement in importing gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), commonly known as the “date rape drug.”
Police say Garcia ordered several packages of GBL from France, which were then sent to a Miami duplex he owns and rents out. Tenants were instructed to hold the packages until Garcia could retrieve them. An additional package was delivered to his diagnostics business.
The investigation began when authorities intercepted the suspicious shipments at Miami International Airport and traced them back to Garcia. He was booked and held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center but was later released. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
