MIDDLETOWN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) – Dr. Kenneth Fox, a 55-year-old physician from Jenkintown, is facing serious charges after an investigation revealed that he was illegally prescribing Suboxone, a controlled substance used in opioid addiction treatment.
Fox, who was recently terminated from Jefferson Health, allegedly continued to see patients in a makeshift office in the basement of his Middletown Township location. According to prosecutors, patients would wait in a hallway with no scheduled appointments, and Dr. Fox would call them in for brief visits.
For a $130 fee, Dr. Fox would prescribe patients a 30-day supply of Suboxone, with no medical consultation or proper health discussions. During a span of four months, Fox reportedly prescribed the drug to 80 patients.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launched an investigation that led to Fox being fined over $450,000 for failing to maintain proper records of controlled substances, issuing prescriptions for stock, and other violations.
Fox has been held in Bucks County Prison with a bail set at 10% of $75,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Thursday. Authorities have yet to provide comments from Jefferson Health regarding his termination.
