By Abah Raphel ( Junior)

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended Aliyu Adamu, a dismissed soldier, for allegedly defrauding three job applicants of N200,000 by falsely promising them positions in the Nigerian Army.

SP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, spokesperson for the command, revealed on September 17, 2024, that Adamu had been expelled from the Nigerian Army for being absent without leave for a year.

“Operatives from the ‘B’ Divisional Police Headquarters took decisive action against this individual involved in fraudulent activities. L/Cpl Aliyu Adamu, hailing from Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, faces charges of impersonation, cheating, criminal misappropriation, and breach of trust,” the statement indicated.

The arrest followed complaints from three victims who reported that Adamu had collected a total of N200,000 from them, assuring them of recruitment into the Nigerian Army. However, none were called for training at the army depot as promised.

Adamu admitted to his dismissal as a Lance Corporal and confessed to using the victims’ money for personal expenses.

Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, the Bauchi State Police Command urges the public to be vigilant against those exploiting job seekers through fraudulent offers.

The suspect will face court charges following the completion of ongoing investigations. Authorities encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities to help prevent similar scams in the future.
