Desmond Gilliam Arrested for West Ashley Five Below Robbery

Charleston, S.C. (WCSC) – Authorities have arrested Desmond Lewis Gilliam, 46, in connection with a December robbery at a Five Below store in West Ashley.

The Charleston Police Department responded to the 900 block of Savannah Highway on December 21 around 5:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a shoplifting incident that turned violent. According to witnesses, Gilliam scratched an employee’s arm after being confronted about stealing merchandise.

On Wednesday, North Charleston Police took Gilliam into custody. He has been charged with strong-arm robbery, and his bond has not yet been set. Court records indicate that his hearing is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with further information to contact law enforcement.
