A drug smuggler, Deshraj, who was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 for his involvement in illegal marijuana possession, has been arrested by the police. The accused had been evading arrest and was found hiding a significant stash of illicit drugs worth Rs 2 Crore in his house.
The DLF Phase 4 crime unit raided a locked house in Nanu Khurd village on August 5. With permission from the house owner, Ram Singh from Daulatabad Kuni village, they broke the lock and discovered over 762 kg of marijuana, wrapped in polythene bundles. An FIR was promptly registered under the NDPS Act at the Pataudi police station.
After months of investigation, a joint team from the crime units of Manesar and Sikenderpur tracked down Deshraj in Mathura on Wednesday. The suspect, a resident of Daulatabad Kuni village, had been on the run.
During questioning, Deshraj admitted to smuggling the marijuana from Orissa in a truck and storing it in the locked house. To avoid capture, he had been hiding in various locations. After his arrest, Deshraj was placed in an eight-day police remand for further interrogation.
