Derrick Santell Brown, 33, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm in connection with drug trafficking and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute. The sentencing, handed down by United States District Judge Bruce H. Hendricks, also included five years of court-ordered supervision after his release.
The case stems from a traffic stop on January 12, 2023, conducted by a Goose Creek Police officer. Brown’s vehicle was initially stopped for a broken headlight. When the officer approached, Brown, who was alone in the car, briefly interacted with the officer before fleeing the scene.
Brown was quickly apprehended by another officer just 300 yards away. A subsequent search revealed over $10,000 in cash, 43 grams of marijuana in two separate bags, and two cell phones. Additionally, an AK-47-style firearm with an extended magazine containing 48 rounds was found in Brown’s vehicle.
Brown now faces a lengthy prison sentence for his role in the drug trade and possession of a firearm in furtherance of his criminal activities.
