Delhi Police Arrest Trio in Remote Radio Unit Theft Ring

The Delhi Police have apprehended three individuals involved in the theft of remote radio units (RRUs) from mobile towers in both the Capital and Odisha. The arrested men reportedly sold these transceivers to local scrap dealers.

Details emerged from two separate operations carried out by the crime branch between October 6 and October 16. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vikram Singh revealed that Mohammad Faizan, a 20-year-old electrician, was arrested on October 10 for stealing an RRU from a mobile tower located on the rooftop of a house in Madhu Vihar, East Delhi.

Faizan’s interrogation led to the arrest of his associate, known only as Ubaish (24). According to Singh, Faizan’s skills as an electrician made him adept at cutting wires, which proved useful in their operations. The police are currently investigating further to identify individuals who purchased the stolen RRUs.

In a separate incident, 25-year-old Shahzad Malik was arrested on October 6 while traveling in an e-rickshaw in Northeast Delhi, carrying five RRUs that were stolen from Odisha. DCP (Crime) Sanjay Kumar Sain indicated that Malik had collaborated with a relative named Sameer, who remains at large.

Officers noted that after his arrest, Malik was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for a medical examination but managed to escape. However, he was rearrested by the Delhi crime branch shortly thereafter.

The investigation continues as police work to dismantle the network involved in this theft ring and recover more stolen equipment.
