A 30-year-old man, identified as Bhagwan Dass, was found dead in a field in north Delhi’s Alipur area on Tuesday. The police have arrested Subhash, the victim’s friend, in connection with the murder. Dass, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was discovered with severe head injuries, suggesting a violent confrontation.
According to DCP (Outer North) Nidhin Valsan, the initial investigation indicates that the murder took place during a heated argument between the two friends, likely while they were under the influence of alcohol. Subhash, the accused, was found near the crime scene with bloodstains on his clothing and shoes. Although Subhash initially denied any involvement, he later explained that he had tried to retrieve Dass’s body from a nearby water body, which he claimed accounted for the blood on him.
However, further investigation uncovered more evidence linking Subhash to the crime. A blood-stained broom was found during a search of his nearby residence, along with additional blood stains in his room, suggesting that he had attempted to clean up the scene after the murder.
Both the accused, Subhash, and the deceased, Bhagwan Dass, worked as laborers. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Subhash has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS.
