Dehradun police have made a significant breakthrough by arresting a key foreign drug peddler involved in cocaine trafficking between Delhi and Dehradun. Tanzanian national Nassor Zahran Hemed was apprehended near Kuthal Gate barrier on Old Mussoorie Road late Sunday, with 68 grams of cocaine valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh in the international market.
Hemed is believed to be a member of the notorious Cobra gang, known for trafficking narcotics across multiple states in India. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh confirmed the arrest, stating that a case had been filed against Hemed at the Rajpur police station under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This arrest follows the earlier capture of seven members of the Cobra gang, including three foreign nationals, two of whom were women. Notable prior arrests include Tanzanians Pascal John (44.5 grams of cocaine, valued at Rs 31 lakh) and Macdonald’s associate, who is still at large.
During interrogation, Hemed revealed that he had worked alongside his associate, Macdonald, to distribute cocaine across India. Their main supplier, Faience, a Tanzanian national, frequently travels between India and Tanzania to supply the drug. The Cobra gang’s operations are mainly targeted at big parties, colleges, and other locations in Dehradun, where they distribute cocaine for commission.
Hemed had brought the cocaine from Delhi to distribute in Dehradun. Police are continuing their investigation and have launched a manhunt for Macdonald. They are also working with national agencies to investigate the international smuggling route and are identifying local recipients of the cocaine in Dehradun. More arrests are expected soon.
