Deepak Gupta Arrested in BharatPe Funds Misappropriation Case

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has arrested Deepak Gupta, a relative of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, in a case involving the misappropriation of company funds. Deputy Commissioner of Police, EOW, Raja Banthia, confirmed Gupta’s arrest following questioning.

Gupta has been named in an FIR filed against Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain, and their family member in May 2023. Arrested on the night of September 19, Gupta is the husband of Madhuri Grover’s sister.

According to the EOW, Gupta served as the Procurement Head during the relevant period and is accused of approving fake deliveries, enabling payments to fictitious companies. Earlier, another suspect, Amit Bansal, was also arrested in connection with this case.

The investigation revealed that Gupta’s role was corroborated through interrogations of Bansal, who is currently in judicial custody. The allegations suggest that Ashneer Grover, Madhuri Jain, and others were involved in the fraudulent misappropriation of funds, utilizing forged documents. This scheme allegedly resulted in a wrongful loss of approximately Rs81 crore to the complainant company.

BharatPe filed a criminal complaint in December 2022 against Ashneer Grover, Madhuri Grover, Shwetank Jain (Madhuri’s brother), Suresh Jain (Ashneer’s father-in-law), and Deepak Gupta, implicating them in this financial scandal.
