A tragic incident unfolded in Dhenkanal, Odisha, on the night of February 28, when 21-year-old Deepak Bishwal was arrested for the brutal murder of his 73-year-old employer, Girish Kumar Rout. Bishwal, who worked as a caretaker for Rout in the Rameshwarpur area, admitted to strangling his employer after enduring years of mistreatment and verbal abuse.
The crime shocked the community, as Bishwal initially attempted to mislead authorities by claiming that his employer had fallen from his cot and lost consciousness. However, after a detailed interrogation, Bishwal confessed to the murder, revealing that he had acted out of frustration from constant arguments and harsh treatment from his elderly employer. In his statement, Bishwal explained that the emotional toll from repeated verbal abuse led him to murder Rout in a fit of rage.
Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Sonkar confirmed the registration of the case at the Dhenkanal Town Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police, along with the forensic team, immediately examined the scene of the crime. A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was strangulation, with marks on the victim’s neck confirming the method used.
During his confession, Bishwal detailed the mental distress he had experienced due to the ongoing conflicts with Rout. The situation escalated to a point where Bishwal felt overwhelmed, leading to the tragic and violent incident. SP Sonkar further confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigation, which continues as the authorities gather evidence related to the murder.
